ITP Media Group’s MEP Middle East reveals HVAC Power 25 --

The HVAC Power 25 are the most prominent and influential players in the region’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning sector, who are striving to ensure that homes, hospitals, schools, shops, offices, and occupied spaces remain healthy, comfortable, and sustainable

The February 2022 edition of ITP Media Group’s MEP Middle East magazine is out, and it is already making waves in the region’s MEP sector, with its publication of the 2022 HVAC Power 25 list.

This edition highlights the region’s HVAC Power 25 companies – the most prominent and influential players in the region’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning sector – who are striving to ensure that homes, hospitals, schools, shops, offices, and occupied spaces remain healthy, comfortable, and sustainable.

At the outset, we would like to thank all the leading contractors, distributors, and suppliers in the GCC region who have responded to our survey questionnaire.

The MEP Middle East team has made a concerted effort to carefully select the top stakeholders who have had a tangible impact on the HVAC sector over the past 12 months.

The list takes into consideration the financial health of the firms; their top completed and ongoing projects during the past year, the value of the contract awards; the size, location, scope of work, and the resources dedicated to each project; as well as their reputation in the market.

The list has also carefully ascertained the digital transformation within the firms, and their individual contributions to sustainable practices and processes.

Please note: The 2022 HVAC Power 25 list is not a ranking. It intends to recognise a host of companies contributing to the sector from across the supply chain. As such, the list has been published in alphabetical order.

Congratulations to:

In addition, for this edition of the HVAC Power 25, we have excluded district cooling and district heating firms such as Empower, Emicool, and Tabreed, among others despite their laudable contributions to the district energy space, in order to arrive at a true representation of the HVAC industry.

Also, multidisciplinary consultants within the MEP space – who will be included in our upcoming 2022 Top MEP Consultants list – have not been featured in this list.

Without further ado, here is an in-depth look into the Top 25 firms that are shaping the future of the region’s HVAC industry.

Honeywell

George Bou Mitri, Vice President and General Manager, Performance Material and Technologies META

Nasdaq-listed Fortune 100 technology company Honeywell has continued to be active player in the HVAC system control and building automation systems sectors through 2021 and 2022.

The firm has expanded its holistic Healthy Buildings Air Quality offering to help improve and measure commercial building indoor air quality with the introduction of Honeywell Electronic Air Cleaners (EACs) with UV Systems and a new line of indoor air quality (IAQ) sensors.

Honeywell EACs with UV help remove impurities from the air as well as provide filtration and disinfection, without significantly impeding air flow. The new IAQ sensors include Honeywell’s Particulate Matter Sensor PM2.5, Total Volatile Organic Compound (TVOC) Sensor and All-in-One IAQ Sensor.

Most recently, the firm inked an MoU with the Riyadh Airports Company (RAC) to minimise the environmental impact of the King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), enable integration and automation, while increasing efficiency, predictability, and safety in airport operations through the use of Honeywell technology.

Honeywell also revealed the Middle East’s first proof of concept project for its integrated Healthy Buildings solutions portfolio at Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) in Dubai.

These advanced technologies will support HBMSU’s strategic goal of creating a healthier and safer environment for building occupants through the deployment of integrated air quality, safety and security solutions, as well as advanced analytics that monitor both the building environment and building occupants’ behaviours.

Honeywell’s solutions help support business continuity, and minimise the risk of disease transmission and the spread of other pathogens.

JLW Middle East

Ramy Boufarhat, Chief Operating Officer, JLW Middle East

Established in 1875, James L Williams (JLW) is one of Australia’s largest and most experienced services contractors. Cemented within the nation’s history as the first HVAC services contractor, JLW ensured many firsts, including the first air-conditioned building in Australia.

The firm’s Middle East operation was started in the UAE in 2008, and it is now regarded by the industry as an elite Tier-1 MEP contracting firm, whose niche is highly technical large-scale design-and-build/EPC projects.

JLW Middle East is recognised in the market for its quality of workmanship, its engineering excellence, and the ability to deliver projects on time.

The firm has now become an industry leader in the development of data centres in the region, providing key design-and-build engineering and contracting services for some of the world’s leading cloud service providers and the region’s leading wholesalers of data storage.

In addition to data centres, JLW has successfully completed a strong repertoire of the largest, iconic commercial projects in the UAE over the past 14 years.

During the past 12 months alone, JLW Middle East has revealed more than eight major project awards across a variety of sectors.

These include three large data-centre projects; three projects with JLW are the main contractor, including the Sharjah Airport Central Utility Plant facility; a theme park project in the form of the Atlantis The Palm Aquaventure Water Park Expansion project; an award-winning project – the Abrahamic Family House; as well as three projects for Expo 2020 Dubai, including the MEP works for Expo 2020’s 110,000m2 Sustainability Thematic District, works on the World Expo’s iconic water feature, and the World Expo’s Media Centre.

JLW Middle East expands on the legacy of the Australian company, “not by being the first to deliver HVAC to the UAE,” as stated by the COO of JLW Middle East, Ramy Boufarhat, “but by being the best at it.”

The reason stems from their engineering excellence and their ability to adopt practical new technologies on their projects.

“The team is always pushing to use the latest in innovations, and if practical, feasible and efficient – we go for it. If the project is a design and build, then the opportunities to do so multiply ten-fold because the project will be designed by our team, and we have the flexibility to work with technology providers and integrate their solutions into our projects, essentially putting their innovation into practice,” Boufarhat adds.

“HVAC systems are approximately 40% to 50% of each of our projects, and when compared to other disciplines, they are not as regulated by the statutory authorities. Therefore, it is quicker and easier for us to adopt new innovations in HVAC systems.”
